Are you getting a spray tan for your wedding?

Are you getting a spray tan for your wedding?

Are you dreaming of walking down the aisle, with your healthy, glowing tan providing the perfect contrast against your white dress?  Are you a little about the things that could go wrong?

I mean, what could go wrong?  Streaks.  Orange Tan. Staining The Dress. Being too dark.  Or too green!!!

SHOULD I GET A SPRAYTAN FOR MY WEDDING?

That’s totally up to you. But with the right preparation you don’t need to worry about wedding day tanning disasters.

And that brings us to:

WHEN SHOULD I GET A SPRAYTAN FOR MY WEDDING?

Two days before your wedding day is perfect to get your glow on.  This gives your tan to develop into a natural color.

BUT WAIT, SHOULD I GET A SPRAYTAN TRIAL?

We definitely recommend trying on a tan before your wedding.  Most brides choose to have a trial, then a second spray before their hens night/bachellorette party so we can make sure that we can achieve the perfect shade for you.  That way you can be confident that your tan on the big day will be exactly what you want.

DO I NEED TO TAKE ALL MY CLOTHES OFF?

Absolutely not – you can wear your underwear, your swimmers, a g-string, or nothing.  Whatever makes you most comfortable.

If you are wearing your own clothing be aware that it will get tanning solution on it, so don’t wear your best knickers!

IS MY TAN GOING TO LAST FOR MY HONEYMOON?

Your spraytan should last for 7-10 days providing you follow pre and post tan aftercare instructions.  You can use a tan extender while you are away to keep your glow up, and you should moisturise well every day.

WHAT ABOUT IF I GO SWIMMING?

Chlorine and salt water will fade a tan more quickly.  Using a water resistant sunscreen will help, as will making sure you rinse off after swimming.  Don’t forget that you can apply your tan extender to help give your spraytan some extra longevity.

CAN I DO ANYTHING TO MAKE MY WEDDING SPRAY TAN LOOK BETTER AND LAST LONGER?

To ensure a wonderful, and long lasting, spraytan that will take you from wedding to honeymoon follow these simple steps for glowing results.

1. Avoid the sun

A spray tan won’t work on sunburned, peeling skin – in fact we’ll turn you away if you are sunburned.  Slather on your sun protection and leave the tanning to us.

2. Hair removal

Shaving should be done at least 12 hours before your tanning session, and waxing should be done 2 hours before your session.

Be especially careful with shaving as the moisture strips on razors can leave a film on the skin, stopping the tanning solution from working on your freshly shaved areas.

4. Get Scrubbing

Did you know that the ingredient in the spray tan (DHA) only affects the layer of skin that’s at the top?

In order to make sure that you have an even long lasting tan you need to exfoliate to make sure that young, healthy skin is being treated.

Make sure to use an exfoliation glove or tan remover glove, especially on the morning of your spray tan.

Sugar and Coffee scrubs can leave oils on your skin which can act as a barrier and stop the tan from working

You should start exfoliating a couple of days before your tanning session, and do your final exfoliation the night before, to make sure that you have the most smooth canvas possible.

It would be great if you could keep up your spray tan maintained the way you do your eyebrows or roots, but unfortunately, faux tans don’t work that way. If you spray a new tan on top of an old tan, it will look patchy—darker in areas where the old tan remains, and lighter in areas where it’s already worn off.

5. Moisturise

Moisturising in the days leading up to your tan ensures that your skin is in the best condition it can be for your tanning session.

Concentrate on the drier parts of your body – feet, ankles, knees, elbows, wrists and hands – as these areas sometime ‘grab’ onto the tan.

Moisturise heavily the night before your tan session, then don’t apply anything to your skin on the day of your tan.

6. Come in clean

As important as it is to moisturise in the days leading up to your tanning session, it’s super important to ensure that there’s no residue on your skin that can affect the outcome of your spraytan.

On the morning of your tanning session shower and do a light exfoliation with a glove and water.

No soaps, moisturisers, perfumes, deodorants or makeup should be used on the day of your appointment.

7. Wear dark, loose clothing

No matter how carefully you are dried of, tight clothing will cause the tan to rub off.

Leggings, tight sleeves and bras can cause issues, so try and schedule your appointment when you can spend a couple of hours in comfortable clothing.

8. Wear nail polish

Nails can sometimes get discoloured during a tanning session.

Wearing nail polish, even just a clear coat of polish, can help protect your nails during the session.
